Free! Music! Contest 2013: Viva la FreevoluCCión!

Using the slogan "Viva la FreevoluCCión", a combination of the rallying cry "Viva la Revolución", "Free" as in "Free! Music! Contest" and "CC", the abbreviation of Creative Commons, the 5th Free! Music! Contest has just started. Organized by Musikpiraten e.V., the contest is fairly well-known in the CC music scene - bands from all over the world already participated.

As in 2012, this year all CC licenses are allowed - and Jamendo is an official partner of the contest!

Just like the past years, a double-CD packed to the brim with the best songs of the contest is going to be produced. A jury chooses the best tracks and takes care that the best of every genre is featured - from Trash Metal to Hip Hop and Blues, whatever the artists submit.

Moreover, vouchers worth 100€ will be raffled among all participants - even the willingness to make one's music free shall be rewarded! Last but not least, there will be a gig near Heidelberg to win. Due to travelling costs, this one is very likely to go to a band from Germany ;)

Register right here until July 31st, 2013!

See the contest page for all the info.

France and Germany's main railway companies partner with Jamendo to celebrate Music Day.

France and Germany's main railway companies SNCF and Deutsche-Bahn are partnering with Jamendo to celebrate Music Day, by organizing unique concerts in high-speed trains. In the bar section of several trains from France to Germany, musicians will set up this Friday and play an acoustic show to entertain the travelers.

We gave a good help by providing 3 of our French artists. They are used to playing on stage, but this kind of "moving" stage will be a first for everyone!

Midem artists The Dada Weatherman (folk, rock, blues)
Jonathan, aka The Dada Weatherman, is a young musician from the Paris area, who first appeared on Jamendo back in 2008. Five albums later, he finds himself quite successful on the platform with more than 2 million listens and about 100,000 downloads. His music is a great mix of bluesy rock, smart pop and ethereal folk. A brilliant multi-instrumentist, he is also the mastermind behind the jazz-pop project Law'.
See him play on June 21st on the #9582 train from Marseille to Frankfurt!

Midem artists Benoit Stanek (pop, folk, chanson)
Originally from the North-West of France and now settled in Lyon, Benoit Stanek is a pure French pop and folk addict, that also proves to be a good songwriter in English and Spanish. His style is full of sincerity, and draws comparisons to artists like Georges Brassens, Ray Lamontagne ou Damien Rice.

See him play on June 21st on the #9582 train going from Marseille to Frankfurt (after Lyon)!

Midem artistsOmashay (rock, fusion)
This young guy from the north of France is already known on Jamendo as the sax player of goofy geniuses Cool Cavemen. He takes a successful leap aside from the band with a solid first solo album full of nice fusion-rock tunes that he entirely recorded himself. He will perform in the train with Damien, fellow guitar player from Cool Cavemen.
See him play on June 21st on the #9577 train going from Paris to Stuttgart, and back from Strasbourg to Paris on train #9570!
