Cloud Maze is a three-man band from Moscow, Russia. Their dynamic pop-rock is filled with pure energy, delicious guitar riffs and crazy synths: we were blown away! No doubt that these guys are having great fun playing their music everywhere in Europe. They've just released their first album Maybe, U Decide on Jamendo... So get on board and have a listen for yourself through the interview!
- Hi guys, we are thrilled to welcome you on Jamendo! As a kick-ass intro, can you tell us who Cloud Maze is and what’s the story of the band?
Hi. First of all we wanna thank you for such a great service that you’re giving for all musicians and listeners all around the world (we talking about your great site Jamendo.com) and secondly we wanna thank you for getting in touch with us.
So, Cloud Maze is – three guys who are living in Russia and want to prove to everyone that russian people also can create European-American kind music. And we hope that we really make it... if not – you should check our new album which will be released in the next year ☺
Our Band was formed in 2013. We already had 4 tours, including Italy tour at may 2013, Russia-Ukraine tour 2014, European tour 2014 as support for our album (Czech Republic, Italy, France, The Netherlands, Belgium and Germany) and another Russian tour at December 2014. That was a really hard year for us.
Cloud Maze is:
Sergy – vox and guitar;
Anfir – bass;
Alex – drums.
- Your first album on Jamendo Maybe, U Decide contains powerful, catchy and dynamic pop/rock songs, blended altogether with indie sounds. Do you feel like you have found your own unique sound? Are you still heavily influenced by other artists?
We don’t want to be like critics and saying that we create our unique sound…it’s all up to you and to all our listeners to decide. But I should say that we really like to add some crazy synths to our sound, maybe that's what making our music sounds kinda unique?!
About other artist – of course we do, especially a new band called “Royal blood”. That band really blew our mind with their unique bass sound.
- Do you have a specific approach when writing a song? How is your creative process as a band?
Yep, before creating songs we meet at basement of my home right at 9pm and sacrifice women or goat for praise Cthulhu ☺ ok, ok, enough for the jokes tonight. No, nothing specific, usually it goes like this – I’m (Sergy) creating the vox melody with all parts of guitars, synth, drums and other stuff using VST instruments. Next step – I’m bringing that demo on our rehearsal to discuss with guys and they, of course, creating much better bass and drums parts than I do. So, that’s the main process.
- What kind of message are you trying to convey through your music?
All our songs about human feelings and about my life experience. Each song was created due to some circumstances that were happening in my life…sadness, happiness, bliss, breaking up with a girl and etc. We really hope that our music helps people to handling life difficulties.
- If we were to take a look at your personal music collection right now, what would we find?
No doubt, you will find The Mars Volta, Foals, Gorillaz, Tool, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Kasabian, Royal Blood and even Eifel 65…if you remember their hit song “Blue”. It was my number one song at age 9.
- Russia, Italy, Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands, France, Czech Republic… you guys have hit the stage everywhere in Europe! What's your best live memory? Which country has the most awesome audience?
All countries and cities were incredible. The best memories were:
When we couldn’t park our van in Paris, owwww, I thought that was impossible, but we found somehow the parking place, but it was in 4 km away from the club where we were playing that night. By the way, I’m in love with that city, it’s so romantic and crazy at the same time.
Next memory we were driving right after Amsterdam to Belgium at night. Tour manager said that we should go to hotel and we entered the address to our GPS system. At 5 am we drived to our destination, but it wasn’t a hotel it was a farm near corn fields, like in horror movies. We were really surprised and our tour manager said that it wasn’t a mistake, the place is correct. Nobody opened the doors at this farm, but in 5 minutes the police came in and they were thinking that we are some kind of terrorists. They searched all our bags, but I understand them…Anyway, the owner of the farm explained everything to the police and we went to sleep.
And the last about the Tour – the most lovely audience was in Germany, a lot of people came to the show and they were so crazy – we really liked it.
- What's next for your guys? Any future plans for the band?
For now – the release of our first video clip for “Trick” (that’s gonna be amazing video... a lot of hot girls, party, hallucinations and other stuff). Next – the release of our new single called “Cigarettes”, then we are going to record a new album and we are also planning to hit some stages in Asia or maybe UK, not really sure for now.
- Last but not least: did you guys find how to exit your "Cloud Maze" yet?
Ahahah….nooo, we lost the map ☺
