This spring is an exciting time for jamendo with a lot of improvements up ahead – both big and small. The series of upcoming releases will implement changes that will ultimately make jamendo more user-friendly from a user and artist standpoint. Because numbers can get a little dull, we decided to name each release after a band and today was “The Bee Gees” release. On top of a bunch of behind-the-scenes changes that you won’t see on the site (but will definitely improve jamendo), here are some new additions:
- a new ratings algorithm
- a new, simpler newsfeed
- a plugin that will display a simple Mp3 player in artist blogs
- a new backoffice that will improve the stability of artist stats
- a new and improved SafeCreative registration process
One thing we really want to focus on is making it easier for you to find the music you love on jamendo. One of our tech guys, Claudio, spent months assessing how we measure the popularity of albums and tracks and creating a new, more fair ratings system. At this point, you can still search for songs based on the old popularity algorithms, but you can also search for tracks using a search based on Claudio’s work. On the album page, just click on the drop down and select either Popularity (V2), Popularity this month (V2) or Popularity this week (V2). You can also listen to Claudio talk about the reasoning behind his work below. Check it out and let us know what you think!

The new update of the SafeCreative process is something that we’re also particularly excited about. Jamendo and SafeCreative have been partners since 2009. They help legally protect the works of artists as far as intellectual property is concerned and is an additional guarantee to the Creative Commons license that all jamendo artists already use. Our artists can get a registration certificate for free from SafeCreative – it’s quick, easy and available from their jamendo accounts. For each musical piece, the SafeCreative certificate provides the date of registration and a unique registration code that can be used as proof of legal authorship in the event of litigation.
