The founder of jamendo and Jamendo PRO received the Creative Young Entrepeneur Luxembourg Award 2009.

Sylvain Zimmer received from the hands of Mr. Tom Theves, from the Ministry of Economy of Luxembourg, the Creative Young Entrepeneur Luxembourg (CYEL) award 2009. This award, granted by the Luxembourg branch of Junior Chamber International (JCI), distinguishes the country’s most creative entrepreneurs. It is given by a jury of entrepreneurs and innovation professionals from Luxembourg.

Sylvain was chosen among twelve candidates by JCI for this award. He received a prize in addition to the acknowledgment of his creative entrepreneurship. He launched Jamendo.com at the ripe age of 20 and then, a few years later, launched Jamendo PRO, designed for professionals looking for background music for public places or for audiovisual sychronization licenses for films, documentaries, ads, etc. Today, Jamendo PRO is experiencing a rapid growth of its income.

“I am thrilled by this recognition. Not only on a personal level, but for all the work accomplished by our team in the last year”, he says. The Young Entrepreneur 2009 will now be able to defend his innovative business model before an international jury and audience in November, at the JCI worldwide competition.

Sylvain Zimmer a reçu des mains de M. Tom Theves du ministère de l’économie l’award Creative Young Entrepeneur Luxembourg 2009 (CYEL). Cet Award organisé par la Jeune Chambre Economique du Grand-duché de Luxembourg (JCI Luxembourg), membre de Junior Chamber International (JCI), récompense les entrepreneurs luxembourgeois pour leur esprit créatif. C’est un jury composé d’entrepreneurs et de professionnels de l’innovation luxembourgeois qui décerne ce prix.

Sylvain a été choisi parmi douze candidats par la Jeune Chambre Economique (JCI), en reconnaissance de son esprit d’entreprise. À 24 ans, il a déjà à son actif le lancement de jamendo.com, véritable révolution dans le monde du téléchargement musical, puis récemment de Jamendo PRO, qui permet aux professionnels de sonoriser des établissements commerciaux et d’acheter des licences de synchronisation pour des films, documentaires publicités etc., et qui connaît aujourd’hui une croissance rapide de son chiffre d’affaire. Cette croissance motive également de plus en plus d’artistes à s’inscrire à Jamendo PRO car ils y voient une façon innovante de toucher des revenus sans restreindre le téléchargement de leur musique pour le grand public.

“Je suis très content de cette reconnaissance, pas seulement à titre personnel mais pour tout le travail accompli par l’équipe depuis l’année passée pour faire grandir jamendo. Ce prix récompense notre travail et notre persévérance”, déclare-t-il, ému. Le jeune entrepreneur 2009 pourra ainsi également défendre son modèle économique innovant devant un jury et un public internationaux en novembre lors du concours mondial de la JCI.

Jamendo is now available from the Moovida Media Center. Access over 21,000 albums by 9500 artists from all over the world, straight from your TV!

Moovida, the free and open source media center for Windows and Linux, has integrated Jamendo in its new interface. With the aggregation of Jamendo to its content catalog, Moovida gives a new dimension to the promotion of free culture: the 21,000 jamendo albums can from now on easily be browsed from a TV screen from your living room couch.

The partnership between Jamendo and Moovida stems from values both companies share: the commitment to innovation, free culture and discovery. Both companies liaised in order to further promote the free culture movement. “We have always been promoting open source software“, says Pierre Gérard, co-founder of jamendo. “Since the beginning, jamendo has been developed using free software. After the successes of Linux, Firefox or OpenOffice, Moovida and jamendo with Creative Commons are now new key actors in this movement.“

La plate-forme libre et opensource Moovida, sous Windows et Linux, a récemment intégré le catalogue Jamendo à sa nouvelle interface. Ainsi vous pouvez dès à présent, tranquillement sur votre écran de télévision depuis votre canapé, accéder aux 21.000 albums des 9500 artistes présents sur Jamendo.

Le partenariat entre Jamendo et Moovida est né des valeurs que nos deux start up partagent : l’innovation, la culture libre et la découverte. Ainsi, les deux entreprises s’engagent ensemble pour faire de la culture libre la nouvelle norme sur la toile.

“Nous avons toujours encouragé l’utilisation de logiciels libres”, explique Pierre Gérard, co-fondateur de Jamendo. “Depuis le début de notre aventure, la plateforme Jamendo a toujours été developée sur des supports libres. Après les succès de Linux, Firefox ou OpenOffice, Moovida et Jamendo se placent vraiment comme de nouveaux acteurs clé.”

Le plugin Jamendo est désormais pré-installé sur Moovida et est dès maintenant téléchargeable gratuitement ici.

C’est triste mais c’est ainsi : il y a assez peu d’artistes japonais sur jamendo. Et encore moins d’artistes pop japonais. C’est pourquoi nous sommes particulièrement heureux de vous présenter notre artiste de la semaine qui réunit ces deux qualités : Secret Ocean.

Secret Ocean est un nouveau venu sur jamendo : il a mis son album Kokoro No Furyoku en ligne il y a tout juste quelques semaines. Il chante en japonais et un petit peu en anglais aussi, avec une esthétique résolument tournée vers le songwriting acoustique à l’occidentale. Ce post est en quelque sorte son cadeau de bievenue…
