Choose streaming and download options!

Last week we did some modifications in jamendo. First of all, we fixed some bugs, like we always do! Then we implement the possibility to choose, in your profile, among several streaming and download options.

Now it’s possible to define if you prefer to keep downloading mp3 music through a direct download or to download ogg music via BitTorrent. However we would advice not to choose that option if you are not an expert.
If you want to personalize the way you use Jamendo, you can even choose another player (Media Player or iTunes for exemple) instead of our jamplayer, but you have to know that option prevents you from going and listening directly to your favorite albums and playlists.

We hope that those new options will satisfy those who really like technology!

To get to the new options, click on your username up right on any page, then Edit your data, and then Edit preferences.

    Good things are reimplemented.
Not only streaming, but also Superior Format (mp3 was good years ago, now it’s not enough) and BT download!
    Thank you very much!

    Hello

I like the new preferences that have been implemented. I would like to ask that Jamendo.Com address an issue which may cause problems for those in the United Kingdom who actively use this resource and download content via Bit Torrent technology.

The United Kingdom Government is proposing, as a mouthpiece for the RIAA and MPAA, to have ISPs monitor the use of Bit Torrent technology to ban persistent offenders who illegally distribute music and movie content. Bit Torrent is a core technology used to distribute media via Jamendo.Com as is obvious, however there is a risk of users being wrongly discriminated for distributing illegal content, when it may in fact be legal content from Jamendo.Com.

I urge Jamendo.Com to contact the British Government and relevant authorities including that of the BPI to secure and assure users of Jamendo.Com that they will not be penalised or pursued for downloading perfectly legal content or become victims of illegal entrapment and embezzlement.

    Hi Anonymous,

I agree, there are numerous legit use of BitTorrent out there.

Unfortunetly, Jamendo by itself has little impact on British Governement decisions. We are a luxembourgish company. The best is to have british citizen pushing for their governement to think again the impact of lobbist on decisions.

If Anonymous comes back to this discussion…

The best thing to do (in the UK) is to write to your MP (member of Parliament). You can do this easily at http://www.writetothem.org. This goes for any political issue, of course, not just Internet access!
I don’t think you really need to worry just yet anyway — but keep an eye on the news.

I’ve just discovered this site, I’m waiting for my first download to complete (seems a bit slow to start on Bittorrent, not sure why), but I think I’ll stick around :-)
