First donations in US Dollars!

We’re very happy to see that in the first day of our new donation system there was 100€ in donations, with our two first donations in US Dollars from bmccosar and Andy Owen!

Thanks *a lot* to the donors on behalf of the jamendo artists, we’re still open to your suggestions to make donations even easier!

Jamendo is soooo good! Just want to say! Thank you all so much for making this! I am very eager to “compensate” you people for your fantastic work in bringing the free music movement to life (that and archive.org) and will be glad to pay for your futurism and vision when I am able to! (need to find a bank and card plan I like first… that’s been a general priority for me these last few days)

I am tired of monopolisation of culture by big business. How they pay off radio stations to only play *their* music, so people get hooked, but when it comes to listening whenever they want? “Oh, no! You cannot have this music unless you pay exorbitant prices. Which, may I mention, barely any of will go to the artist because the artist is already many thousands in debt for our services to them! And if you want to get your music from the internet? Well, you can only get it in our special formats which are low quality and make you not able to use it how you like! God knows we can’t trust you idiots to behave!” And the music they sell usually isn’t even that good, anyway, and it’s all the same bands over and over again. You always hear the same shit pushed on all the radio stations; and it’s always the same albums available in any store you go to. There’s no variety, nothing original, and you’re treated like a suspect, potential victim, and a moron at every turn by the record industry.

I like it when I have choice. When I get to decide what music I want to listen to. They don’t want me to be a pirate? They don’t want me to listen to their music for free? Fine, I won’t listen to their music! There’s plenty of other, better music out there, for free, from people who are glad to occupy my ear’s real estate! I think me and those freedom-loving artists will work out a quite happy relationship, thank you very much! I don’t need you silly , greedy, controlling, mean, boring record companies any more! I got new friends now! They treat me nice, and respect me! They’re not abusive of their listeners! So kiss my ass RIAA!

Sorry, I just had to get that out. I love free music. And I think everyone should, and that’s part of the reason why — because in America, our ability to easily listen to good music in the way we want is rapidly dwindling; the internet, and free music especially, are ways to bring that back! Sharing allows people to listen to what they want, and to let others listen to what they want. And even if I don’t make a living off my harmonica jams, if I have passion for it (and I do), I’m able to do it in my free time anyway. At least I have listeners, and at least I’m not chaining them up or anything. I gotta make praise for the internet, I gotta praise for free music, and I definitely gotta praise for the revival of the rights of the everyday joe to share tunes with each other. It’s all fantastic!

Man. I am so jived on idealism right now. Can’t wait until I can donate! I’m serious! As if I could possibly not donate! :D

Wow–I had no idea you had mentioned me in your blog, thank you.

Jamendo has really opened up my world. Long before I published my album, evolution, on Jamendo [1], I had used sites like Jamendo and DMusic to find new and interesting music. Mainstream, “commercial” music doesn’t appeal to me, and jazz has become almost a museum feature in the United States. On Jamendo, the music is still alive, still new, still original, still . . . evolving.

As of today, it has been over four months since I bought a commercially produced album. All the music I listen to is from the free (free as in freedom) music sites. By setting up the donation system, you let me put that former album money to the place it does the most good–encouraging the artists I like to continue what they’re doing.

Further, my exposure to an international audience has led me to realize that, though I read a number of languages, I need to develop the ability to speak and write in them as well [2]. I am hoping to become truly bilingual over the next year. Part of my strategy will be to use the French site as well as the English version.

I can’t thank you enough for making this site possible. This past week has been one of the best of my life.
